Police are investigating after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Thunderbolt’s Way, the second fatal accident on the important road in less than two months.
Emergency services were called to Thunderbolts Way at Uralla about 12.30pm on Monday 18 May 2026 following reports a motorcycle had left the road and crashed.
Bystanders rushed to help the rider, a 70-year-old man, and began first aid before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene.
Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.
Officers attached to New England Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The crash occurred as much-needed rain swept across the New England region, leaving roads wet and slippery after an extended dry period. It is believed the accident was a single vehicle accident, but police have not yet determined why the motorcyclist left the roadway.
The death follows another fatal crash on Thunderbolts Way in early April, when a 22-year-old truck driver was killed near Walcha after a horror crash involving two trucks and a ute.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage or information relevant to the investigation, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at Crime Stoppers NSW
