Current vacancies

Advertising Manager (part time)

We are currently looking for a part time Advertising Manager. This is a work from home role – you can be based anywhere in the New England – with flexible hours.

The Advertising Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tasks associated with advertising, including communication with clients, sales, marketing, project management, and advertising strategy development.

We are a small team, but growing fast. As this is a new-ish role, you will have the opportunity to set up systems the way you like them. You will be supported by an external agency who assists with graphic design and other content development.

Award wages plus OTE incentive are on offer, plus a phone will be provided and travel will be reimbursed. Initial contract will be part time, 20 hours a week (flexible) for one year, with the option to increase hours or duration of contract based on performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience in sales, advertising sales preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in the news or media industry is a plus
  • Must have good knowledge of the New England region.

Please include in your cover letter your connection to the New England region.

Apply by emailing editor@netimes.com.au. Applications close March 8, 2024.

Investigative Journalists

We are currently seeking to hire freelance and/or part time Investigative Journalists to join a new investigations unit.

Our Investigative Journalists will be responsible for conducting research and investigations to uncover and report on serious and sensitive news stories in and about the New England region with depth and accuracy. Our preference is for people who currently live in the area, but we are open to applications from experienced journalists who have worked in the area earlier in their career.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field
  • Proven experience as an Investigative Journalist
  • Excellent analytical and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with legal and ethical guidelines for journalism
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Experience working in a fast-paced news environment is a plus
  • Must have good knowledge of the New England region. Please do not apply if you do not meet this criterion.

For freelancers we have a sliding scale based on complexity of the story rather than a per word arrangement, that equates to about $50/hr for an experienced journalist. A premium will be paid for investigative features.

Part time journalist will be paid award rates, under a 1 year contract.

Apply by emailing editor@netimes.com.au with a cover letter that explains your connection and understanding of the region. Please include writing examples in your application, at least one of which should be an investigation or long read piece in a journalistic style.

Applications close March 1, 2024.

Freelancers

The New England Times is always on the hunt for local journalists to add to the freelancer team.

You must live in, or have formerly lived in, the 12 LGAs of the New England/North West. Those who live here understand why: the New England has a culture all of its own, and if you don’t live it, you won’t get it.

We invite all our freelancers into our Slack space so you can feel a part of the team and collaborate on stories with fellow freelancers.

We offer a sliding scale of freelance rates based on complexity of the story rather than a per word arrangement, that equates to about $50/hr for an experienced journalist. We can negotiate on costs or rates once you have proven your value to the team.

If you have a nose for finding a great story, and the experience of delivering, we would love to hear from you.

Please apply by emailing your resume and writing samples to editor@netimes.com.au
