One of regional sport’s fiercest school rivalries will reignite this Friday when Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School and The Armidale School (TAS) go head-to-head for the Dick Hodgson Shield and Jim Levy Shield.
The annual clash is a highlight of the school sporting calendar, with generations of students having taken part in the long-running contest between the two schools. More than just a day of competition, the event is steeped in tradition, pride and school spirit.
Farrer Principal Clint Gallagher said the rivalry always brought out the best in students from both schools.
“The TAS vs Farrer Shield is something our students look forward to every year,” Gallagher said. “It’s a great opportunity for the boys to represent their school, build camaraderie and compete in the right spirit. There’s always plenty of pride on the line and our teams have been preparing well for the challenge.”
This year’s competition will be hosted at Farrer, with students competing across basketball, tennis, soccer, rugby, football, chess and debating as both schools vie for bragging rights and shield honours.
The hockey match will be played at the Tamworth Hockey Centre, while the shooting event will be held at Calibre Country.
Families and supporters are encouraged to attend between 12pm and 5pm to cheer on the students and add to the atmosphere as another chapter is written in the long-standing rivalry between the two schools.
