Gunnedah Conservatorium, in association with Musica Viva, will present Forever Changed by ARIA-nominated pianist and composer Nat Bartsch at the Smithurst Theatre on Sunday, 12 July.
Designed as a relaxed, low-sensory performance, Forever Changed aims to provide an inclusive concert experience for neurodivergent audiences, families, children, carers and anyone who may find traditional concert settings overwhelming.
Rather than requiring audiences to remain seated and silent throughout the performance, the concert encourages people to engage with the music in the way that is most comfortable for them. Seating options will include cushions, pillows, beanbags, floor seating and chairs, with sensory resources also available. Audience members are welcome to bring their own sensory supports or preferred seating items.
Composer and performer Nat Bartsch said Forever Changed was developed in consultation with the neurodivergent community.
“I created this project in consultation with other autistic and ADHD people, and music therapists,” Bartsch said. “I wanted to discover the music others love, and why, and what could be done differently in a live show, in order for it to be a more soothing and positive experience.”
The performance combines Bartsch’s piano with recorded harp and strings, natural soundscapes and ambient electronic textures inspired by lullabies.

Gunnedah Conservatorium director Rebecca Ryan said the performance was intended to create an environment where audiences felt comfortable and included.
“We want people to know before they even arrive that they do not have to worry about fitting into the usual concert expectations,” Ryan said. “If someone needs to move, make noise, sit differently, use sensory supports or take a break, that is all okay. They are welcome exactly as they are.”
Ryan said the concert would also appeal to anyone seeking an intimate live music experience.
“This is a stunning musical experience in its own right,” she said. “It is gentle, immersive and moving. But what makes it especially meaningful is that it has been shaped with care for people who may not always feel that concert spaces are made for them.”
Community members of all ages are invited to attend.
