Teen charged over alleged Inverell break and enter

Double demerit points will apply for the holiday season

A 16-year-old boy has been charged over an alleged aggravated break and enter at a home in Inverell, where police allege a safe, cash and household items were stolen.

Police were called to a home on John Street about 3:15pm on Saturday after reports of a break-in.

Officers were told several people allegedly forced entry to the house before stealing a safe, cash and multiple household items, then fled on foot.

No one was injured.

Police said they later found the emptied safe and other items allegedly stolen from the home at a nearby property.

Following inquiries, officers arrested the 16-year-old at an Inverell address after a short foot pursuit about 4pm on Saturday.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal less than or equal to $60,000, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The boy was refused bail before appearing in the Children’s Court on Sunday, where he was granted strict conditional bail. He is due to reappear in the Children’s Court on 16 July.

Police inquiries are continuing.
