Manilla residents have a rare chance to pick up nationally recognised first aid qualifications for free this Saturday, with spots strictly limited.

VRA Rescue NSW is offering a free community training course at the Manilla Town Hall Complex, 191 Manilla Street, from 9am on Saturday, 27 June. The course delivers two nationally recognised qualifications: HLTAID009 (Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid).

VRA Rescue NSW Commissioner Brenton Charlton said the training was designed to put life-saving skills directly into the hands of everyday people.

“First aid training equips everyday people to respond instantly in an emergency,” he said.

“Whether it’s for work, family, sport or everyday life, these skills can make the difference in a life-threatening situation.”

“That shared knowledge can help reduce the severity of injuries, ease pressure on emergency services and create a safer, more proactive community,” the Commissioner said.

Deputy Commissioner Alix Thom said trained bystanders were often the difference between life and death before paramedics arrived.

“Trained bystanders can provide critical care in the first few minutes before paramedics arrive, which is often the difference in life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrest.

“It also means minor injuries are managed properly, reducing the risk of complications.”

“Importantly, learning these skills together strengthens community connections giving people the confidence to step in, support one another and potentially save a life,” Ms Thom said.
