Young people invited to help shape Gunnedah’s future

There is room for more members in Council’s Youth Working Group and Youth Consultative Council. Photo supplied.

Young people are being encouraged to have their say on issues that matter to them by joining Gunnedah Shire Council’s Youth Consultative Council (YCC) or Youth Working Group.

The YCC was established following its inaugural meeting in May and brings together young people with representatives from Gunnedah Shire Council, Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, PCYC Gunnedah and Sora Community Services under a Memorandum of Understanding.

The council provides a platform for young people to share ideas, raise local issues and help shape initiatives for the community. Members take their ideas to Council’s Youth Working Group for consideration and recommendation.

Council has been holding monthly Youth Working Group meetings to engage members and identify future activities. The YCC was promoted at Council’s Youth Expo during NSW Youth Week in April.

There is still room for more members, with young people encouraged to get involved and help influence projects, events and opportunities for local youth.

Anyone interested in joining the Youth Consultative Council or Youth Working Group can contact Gunnedah Shire Council on (02) 6740 2100 or email council@gunnedah.nsw.gov.au for more information.
