NBN Fixed Wireless launched near Narrabri

The new nbn Fixed Wireless tower is improving broadband connectivity for more than 700 homes and businesses near Narrabri.

Funded through a partnership between NBN Co and the NSW Government, the investment is providing faster and more reliable broadband services, including improved video calling, enhanced streaming, faster downloads and support for more connected devices.

The infrastructure upgrade is designed to strengthen regional connectivity, helping residents and businesses access digital services that support remote work, online learning, telehealth and economic development through the nbn Fixed Wireless network.

The Narrabri East tower, together with the Narrabri repeater site, is the first infrastructure in the Narrabri Local Government Area to become operational under the program. Additional towers at Yarrie Lake and Drildool are expected to be completed in coming months.

The Regional Digital Connectivity Program aims to improve broadband infrastructure and services for regional communities across New South Wales.

NSW Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW Tara Moriarty said reliable digital infrastructure was essential to supporting regional communities.

“This investment supports every part of the community, from local businesses to students and families, by delivering the reliable highspeed broadband that makes daily life easier,” Moriarty said.

“This investment by the NSW Government is about keeping our communities connected and supporting families, jobs and the future of our regions.”

NBN Local Executive Manager, Regional Community and Stakeholder Engagement NSW, Tom O’Dea, said the Narrabri East tower demonstrated NBN Co’s commitment to improving connectivity in regional Australia.

“The nbn Fixed Wireless network is critical infrastructure, delivering faster speeds and more reliable connectivity for regional homes and businesses, even at peak times,” O’Dea said.

“Every Australian deserves fast, effective broadband, whether they live in a city or a country town.”

Barwon MP Roy Butler said improved connectivity across north-west NSW would deliver significant benefits for the region.

“The new tower marks a significant boost, providing more reliable internet, better performance and more service options at city like prices and speeds,” Butler said.

“Reliable connectivity is essential for regional communities, ensuring people in northwest NSW can work, learn and access services, regardless of where they live.”

Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens welcomed the investment, saying it would support the region’s continued growth.

“Narrabri is a growing regional hub, and better connectivity will open opportunities for local businesses, improve access to essential services and help families stay connected,” Mayor Tiemens said.

“Our community is full of high achievers, and strong digital infrastructure will help us continue to excel.”

The new tower became operational in late March 2026, with residents already reporting the benefits of improved connectivity.
