Tamworth bull rider Colby Edgar to make PBR Origin debut

Tamworth bull rider Colby Edgar will make his PBR Origin debut this year after being named in the New South Wales Blues squad for the 2026 PBR Australia Monster Energy Origin Series.

The 20-year-old joins a strong NSW line-up as the Blues prepare to defend their historic 2025 title win — the first Origin Series victory in the state’s history.

Edgar has been selected alongside fellow Tamworth rider Lachlan Slade in a side featuring experienced Origin competitors and international talent, including Brazilian riders Keny Roger and Alison Aguiar.

The PBR Australia Monster Energy Origin Series begins in Newcastle on May 30 before heading to Brisbane on June 6 and concluding in Sydney at the TikTok Entertainment Centre on August 1.

Last year’s series decider in Sydney delivered one of the most memorable contests in Australian bull riding, with NSW defeating Queensland 500.25 points to 419.50.

PBR Australia managing director Glen Young said the 2026 series would again showcase some of the country’s best riders.

“There’s nothing in Australian sport quite like Origin, and in bull riding, it’s eight seconds of absolute chaos where every ride matters,” Young said.

“Last year proved the Blues are no longer underdogs, but Queensland is coming back with one thing on its mind — revenge.

“These are two of the strongest line-ups we’ve ever seen assembled for Origin. There’s world-class experience, young guns in red-hot form, and riders returning from the US ready to put everything on the line for their state.”

Edgar’s selection marks another milestone for Tamworth’s strong representation in Australian bull riding, with both he and Slade named in the NSW team, while junior rider Liam Birks will also represent the Blues in the underage Origin competition.

Before the senior competition begins, junior riders from the 2025 PBR Australia Can-Am Junior Academy will compete at all three Origin events.

“The Can-Am Junior Academy is more than a ride or a series; it’s the breeding ground for the next generation of champions,” Young said.

“These young athletes are born for this and represent the future of bull riding in Australia.”
