Internationally award-winning travelling dog photographer Kerry Martin is heading to the New England region this month as part of her nationwide project celebrating the bond between Australians and their dogs.

From 17–20 May, Kerry will photograph dogs across Armidale and surrounds for Dog Tales of Australia 2: Pawtraits, a coffee table book showcasing beloved dogs in some of the country’s most distinctive landscapes.

The New England region’s heritage streets, cool-climate scenery, cafés and wide-open country settings will provide the backdrop for a series of portraits capturing the connection between local dogs and their communities.

“Every region has its own story when it comes to dogs,” Kerry said.

“In places like New England, you really see how deeply dogs are woven into everyday life.”

Travelling Australia by caravan with her husband, dog and cat, Kerry has spent more than two years documenting dogs and their owners in communities across every state.

The project also supports Assistance Dogs Australia, with $100 from every photography session donated to the national charity, which provides fully trained assistance dogs to people with mobility needs, autism and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Kerry said the New England region offers a unique backdrop for the project.

“There’s such a beautiful mix of country charm, historic character and natural landscapes here,” she said.

“We love photographing dogs in places that mean something to their families, whether that’s a favourite walking track, a local café or out on the land.”

A limited number of sessions are available for dog owners in Armidale and surrounding areas.
