Tenterfield Shire Council advises that village bores in Torrington and Drake have been successfully commissioned and are now fully operational.
The milestone marks the completion of key infrastructure aimed at strengthening water security and improving drought resilience in both communities. The bores will provide a reliable supplementary water source for firefighting and livestock, supporting essential needs during periods of low rainfall and increased demand.
The projects form part of Council’s broader program to bolster critical infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the Shire. Over the past two years, Council has delivered four village bore projects in Liston, Legume, Drake and Torrington, improving water security across these communities. The coordinated program reflects ongoing investment in practical, long-term measures to support resilience to future climatic challenges.
Council acknowledged the support of the jointly funded Australian and NSW governments’ Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, delivered through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
“The Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund was established to support communities and assist them in building resilience, and what better example of this than strengthening water security in rural and remote NSW.” said NSW Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty.
“The two bores in Torrington and Drake will be incredibly valuable to the local community in times of need. Congratulations to Tenterfield Shire Council for the completion of this infrastructure and their ongoing efforts to improve drought security – something the NSW Government is also committed to.”
