Still time to join Nomads juniors ahead of season start

There is still time for young players to sign up with the New England Nomads Juniors, with the first AFL North West Gala Day coming up soon.

Armidale’s only junior AFL club will kick off its 2026 campaign at the first Junior Gala Day in Gunnedah on May 3, fielding teams in Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 age groups, alongside Auskick and Superkick programs for younger children.

Club president Cameron Dalgleish said preparations were ramping up, with training already underway.

“Training on Tuesday afternoons at Bellevue Oval have begun and the new lights at the oval are fantastic for the kids to train under,” he said.

Previously the club trained under just one small light which was really challenging. With a government grant of $425,000, proper sports ground lighting now brightens up Bellvue Oval enabling the team to train better and aim for better performances this year.

The junior competition is played through a series of gala days held across the region, bringing together clubs for full days of matches while reducing the travel burden on families.

Six gala days are scheduled across a 16-week season, with events to be held in Gunnedah, Glen Innes, Tamworth, Inverell and Armidale. The Nomads will host the final round on August 16.

Participating clubs include the New England Nomads, Glen Innes Celts, Gunnedah Bulldogs, Tamworth Roosters and Inverell Saints.

Those interested can get in touch with Cameron directly on 0401 648 237 or via their Facebook Page.
