Christmas in the Highlands – Illuminations will take place in Glen Innes this Saturday, 29 November, transforming the town centre into a light-filled precinct for all ages.
Proudly funded by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program in association with Glen Innes
Severn Council, the event will feature lighting installations and projections, interactive and creative
experiences, twilight markets, food trucks, live entertainment, reindeer in the park, and the lighting of the town Christmas tree across two themed zones – North Pole and South Pole precincts.
Christmas in the Highlands – Illuminations is community-driven, with local makers, musicians,
performers, businesses, volunteers, and Council teams helping to shape the event. In addition to
celebrating community creativity, the event supports the region’s local economic development,
attracting visitors to the Glen Innes Highlands.
Being a weekend event, visitors are also encouraged to stay overnight and explore what the region has to offer, including boutique shopping, dining options, the Glen Innes Highlands Skywalk, the Australian Standing Stones and Centennial Parklands, and scenic drives to nearby villages including Emmaville and Deepwater.
Mayor Margot Davis said, “Christmas in the Highlands – Illuminations is a celebration of community and creativity. It’s a time for families, friends and neighbours to come together, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and appreciate the people, local artists and performers who make this region so special.”
“Most of all, it’s about sharing in the spirit of the Highlands and the pride we have in our community,” she said.
Daytime markets, entertainment, and kids’ activities begin from 3.00pm. The reindeer and kids’
precinct runs from 5.00pm to 8.00pm near King Edward Park, followed by the parade of light and
street party through Grey Street from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.
