Tamworth residents warned of scam targeting council events

Tamworth Regional Council is warning residents and businesses to remain vigilant following reports of fraudulent booking forms and websites falsely claiming to be associated with council-supported events.

The warning follows the discovery of a fake stallholder booking form and online portal, raising concerns that community members and local businesses could be targeted by scammers.

Council says it has taken steps to address the issue but is urging residents to verify websites, email addresses and payment requests before sharing personal information or transferring money.

Anyone who receives suspicious communication claiming to be from council is encouraged to confirm its legitimacy through official council channels.

Residents and businesses who suspect they have encountered a scam are urged to report it to Scamwatch.

Those who believe they may have provided personal or financial information to scammers should contact their financial institution immediately.

Council is encouraging the community to share the warning to help prevent further incidents.
