Five health and wellbeing projects, from aqua aerobics in Quirindi to a morning bootcamp at Werris Creek Public School, will share $21,000 in community grants.

The projects were chosen through the Liverpool Plains Collaborative Care Small Grants initiative. More than 700 votes were cast by the community over two weeks. The grants offered up to $5,000 for ideas that support health, wellbeing and social connection.

The successful applicants are Five Star Health and Fitness, Kinetic Grind, Werris Creek Public School, St Joseph’s School in Quirindi and WalHealth. They have until Friday, 30 April 2027 to complete their projects.

“We received such a great range of ideas from the community, from kids’ bootcamp to aqua aerobics and more! As well as supporting health and wellbeing, these activities create opportunities for people to come together and connect,” said Collaborative Care Community Project Manager Samantha Shipman.

Kinetic Grind will bring aqua aerobics to Quirindi with a 10-week, low-cost aqua fitness program. It will cater for 15 to 20 participants per session throughout the summer months.

At Werris Creek Public School, staff will voluntarily run a 30-minute bootcamp before class, Monday to Friday. The school says it will help build students’ fitness and stamina.

Young at Heart is a low-impact exercise program designed mainly for seniors but open to all. A fully qualified trainer will lead it. It gives locals access to a service that would otherwise mean travelling for more than an hour.

At St Joseph’s School in Quirindi, the Daily Bread Cafe Breakfast Club will provide a no-cost breakfast for students. The cafe will open from 8.30 to 9.00 am, three days each week.

The Walhallow Aboriginal Corporation’s Elders Group meets every Tuesday to yarn and connect. It will add a gentle exercise program with an accredited exercise professional, as well as free day trips.

Many high-quality applications were received, and not every idea could be funded. The Liverpool Plains Collaborative Care project group thanks everyone who applied.

The Collaborative Care program is facilitated by RDN Health in partnership with the NSW Ministry of Health, local health providers and community organisations.
