Dogs across Glen Innes are being encouraged to grab their humans and head to East Avenue next weekend for the official opening of the new Glen Innes Dog Adventure Park.
The community celebration will run from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday, 19 September, at the Off Leash Dog Park, 89 East Avenue, with Mayor Margot Davis and long-time dog park advocate Val Cleaver officially opening the facility.
The new park is the result of community advocacy, consultation and planning, culminating in a dedicated space where local dogs can run, play and socialise safely. Community consultation carried out in 2024 helped shape the final design, which includes separate areas for small and large dogs, secure fencing, water infrastructure, shade and play features.
Mayor Davis said the Dog Adventure Park was a fantastic addition to Glen Innes and a project many residents had been eager to see become a reality.
“This is a wonderful addition to Glen Innes,” Mayor Davis said.
“It gives our community a dedicated place to enjoy with their dogs and makes the experience that little bit better for visitors exploring our region with their four-legged companions.”
“I’m sure there will be plenty of wagging tails at the opening, and I look forward to seeing the park enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.”
The opening promises plenty of tail wagging, with a Best Dressed Dog Competition, a Most Waggiest Tail Competition and a Hot Dog Sizzle, with gold coin donations supporting the Animal Welfare League. Dogs can register for the competitions on the day.
Whether a dog prefers strutting its best outfit, wagging its way to a prize or simply chasing a ball with new friends off the leash, everyone, two and four-legged, is welcome to come along.
