Country music fans will have the power to choose the next Galaxy of Stars recipient, with public nominations opening for one of the Tamworth Country Music Festival’s most respected honours.
Established by Tamworth Regional Council in 2000, the Galaxy of Stars recognises Australasian country music artists who have made a significant contribution to the industry and connected strongly with audiences. Slim Dusty was the inaugural recipient.
For the first time, fans are being invited to nominate artists for the honour, with nominees assessed on their fan base, public appeal and ongoing popularity.
Eligible nominees can be solo artists, duos or bands and must have made a significant contribution to the Australian country music industry and a positive impact on fans during the past 12 months, from July 2025 to July 2026. They must also be active participants in the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Nominations will be open from 18 August to 1 September 2026, before fans vote for their preferred artist from the top five nominees in September.
The winner will be announced in January during the Toyota 55th Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Events Officer Crystal Vero says the change comes as a new way to recognise the important role fans play in shaping and supporting Australia’s country music industry.
“Country music fans are at the heart of what makes the Tamworth Country Music Festival so special.
“Giving fans the chance to nominate and vote for the Galaxy of Stars recipient is a wonderful way to celebrate the artists who continue to shape the industry, connect with audiences and contribute to the unique spirit of the festival.” Crystal says.
Previous Galaxy of Stars recipients include Lyn Bowtell, Luke O’Shea, The Wolfe Brothers, Amber Lawrence, Roger Knox, Catherine Britt, Travis Collins, Allan Caswell, Sara Storer, Kasey Chambers, Melinda Schneider, Colin Buchanan and Anne Kirkpatrick.
Other recipients include The McClymonts, Adam Harvey, Ted Egan, Chad Morgan, The Bushwackers, Tommy Emmanuel, Phil Emmanuel, Felicity Urquhart, Adam Brand, James Blundell, Beccy Cole, Jimmy Little, Troy Cassar-Daley, Smoky Dawson, Joy McKean, Gina Jeffreys, Graeme Connors, Lee Kernaghan, Tania Kernaghan, Arthur Blanch, John Williamson and Slim Dusty.
