A 28-year-old woman has been charged with domestic violence and bail offences after a PolAir Remote drone helped police track her down at a Moree property over the weekend.
Officers from New England Police District were called to a home on Boston Street, Moree, about 4.50pm on Sunday, 2 August, following a report of a concern for welfare. When police arrived, no one was home.
Following further inquiries, and with the assistance of a PolAir Remote drone, police became aware of a woman leaving a shed on the property and entering the house. Officers arrested the woman inside the home shortly after.
She was taken to Moree Police Station, where she was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in an AVO (Domestic) and breach of bail.
The woman was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Monday, 3 August, where bail was formally refused. She is due to reappear at Moree Local Court on Monday, 24 August.
The arrest is among the latest uses of PolAir Remote, an Australian-first drone trial that has been running in Moree since January. Two drones are stationed on the roof of Moree Police Station and remotely piloted from a Remote Operations Centre at Bankstown Airport under the callsign POLAIR 800, feeding live video back to officers on the ground.
The drones have previously helped track a man wanted over an alleged machete assault, assisted in the arrest of two people following an aggravated break and enter, and helped locate a stolen SUV, as well as spotting several fires across Moree during a security operation earlier this year.
