Bingara residents and businesses are set to benefit from faster mobile speeds and improved network performance as Telstra upgrades the town’s mobile base station.
The upgrade will increase 4G and 5G capacity, helping deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion as demand for mobile data continues to grow.
A Telstra spokesperson said the investment reflected the importance of reliable connectivity for regional communities.
โWe know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether youโre in the city or the country.โ
The spokesperson said increasing capacity at the Bingara site would help improve customers’ everyday mobile experience.
โAs data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G/5G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion for customers.โ
To complete the work safely, the mobile site will be switched off for up to 10 hours each day. The project has been extended by one day and is now expected to be completed on Saturday, 1 August.
The spokesperson acknowledged the temporary disruption and said Telstra would work to minimise the impact on the community.
โWhile disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, weโll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.โ
Telstra mobile customers will receive an SMS before the planned works begin. The outage will not affect nbnยฎ, satellite internet services, PSTN landline services or mobile coverage provided by other mobile networks.
If the Telstra site is offline, calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile will automatically connect via another available mobile network to reach emergency services.
During the works, customers can continue to make and receive calls and send text messages by enabling Wi-Fi Calling on compatible devices connected to Wi-Fi.
Business owners are also encouraged to speak with their bank about connecting EFTPOS terminals to their nbn or Wi-Fi service to help avoid transaction delays while the upgrade is underway.
