Thomas Rural has been named the New England’s Best Rural Supplies business, with customers praising its local knowledge, outstanding service and genuine commitment to helping producers succeed.
The Tenterfield family-owned business received strong backing from farmers and landholders, who said its combination of practical experience, competitive pricing and personalised advice made it an invaluable part of the local agricultural community.
Many voters said the business stood apart because its staff understand the challenges faced by local producers.
“As a local family-owned business they offer trusted products, local knowledge and friendly service,” Emma said.
Andrea agreed, describing Thomas Rural as “a great local family-owned business with excellent service and both product and practical agricultural knowledge.”
For Candice, having locals behind the counter makes all the difference.
“They are very knowledgeable, very friendly and helpful,” she said. “Having locals who know this area helps with advice on products and what they should be used for.”
Exceptional customer service was another recurring theme throughout the nominations.
Michael praised the business for its customer service and competitive pricing, while Luke simply described the team as offering “great service” and being friendly to deal with.
Roxanne said nothing was ever too much trouble, describing the staff as cooperative and reliable, while Tracie Hawkins said they were “always friendly, professional and go above and beyond for their customers.”
Customers also appreciated the team’s willingness to find solutions rather than simply sell products.
Ben said the staff provided exceptional customer service backed by excellent product knowledge, and if they didn’t know an answer they would find it and get back to customers.
“That seems very rare these days in the rural merchandise business,” he wrote.
Shannon said Thomas Rural’s local farming background gave the team an understanding of the region that couldn’t be taught.
“They know the region well and know what the region’s farming requires,” Shannon said. “Thomas Rural wants everyone to flourish in their region and are happy to help and be part of boosting their customers’ success.”
The store itself also attracted praise, with Tracie Mulcahy highlighting its competitive pricing, tidy presentation and friendly, reliable service, while Erin said the great staff, welcoming atmosphere and willingness to source products made it her first choice.
Hayley singled out team member Tracie for her farming knowledge and customer service, saying she travelled from outside the district because she preferred dealing with Thomas Rural.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for us, we are so appreciative of our loyal and passionate customers,” the team said on hearing of their win.
The win near guarantees Tenterfield’s position on the top of the Town Tally for Best in the New England 2026, with only Armidale capable of catching them in the last week of the promotion.
