More than 40 NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers from across the Liverpool Range District, including members from brigades serving the Liverpool Plains, will be recognised for their service to local communities at a medal presentation ceremony in Scone tonight.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Viki Campbell will join guests to present 43 Long Service Medals and Clasps, recognising a combined total of more than 1,500 years of service.
Among those being recognised are three volunteers with more than 70 years of service, including Gundy Brigade’s Peter Blake, whose decades of commitment have supported communities across the Liverpool Plains.
Deputy Commissioner Campbell said the ceremony recognised the contribution volunteers continue to make across the Liverpool Range District.
“These medals recognise decades of commitment to protecting local communities and supporting the RFS,” Deputy Commissioner Campbell said.
“Several members will be recognised for significant milestones, including three volunteers who have each dedicated more than 70 years of service.
“Dangarfield Brigade’s Don Gardiner, Gundy Brigade’s Peter Blake and Dean Newling of Thornthwaite Brigade have continually served their communities since the 1950s, reflecting an extraordinary lifelong commitment to others.
“To see multiple members celebrating this special milestone is a testament to the enduring spirit of volunteerism within regional communities.”
Deputy Commissioner Campbell congratulated the recipients and thanked their families, friends, employers and local communities for supporting RFS volunteers.
“These awards recognise not only operational service, but also the countless hours spent training, preparing and supporting brigades behind the scenes,” she said.
“Liverpool Range volunteers embody the very best of community service. Whether on the fireground, supporting emergency operations or mentoring younger members, their dedication makes communities safer.”
