The Tamworth community is invited to come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week at a family fun day recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, connection and community.
The event will bring together local Elders, Aboriginal community members, Northcott customers and their families for a morning of shared activities celebrating this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, while acknowledging 50 years of NAIDOC.
The celebration will begin with a Welcome to Country by Elder Nan Amy, followed by a smoking ceremony. Guests will then be invited to share curry and damper prepared by Northcott customers and local Aunty Uricka.
Community members of all ages will be able to take part in a range of activities, including hair braiding and headband making for children, contributing handprints to a collaborative community artwork, and creating art using traditional, locally sourced materials alongside Northcott customers and local Aunties.
Northcott Tamworth Service Manager Sharon Leonard said the event was an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture while strengthening local community connections.
โWe are honoured to come together with customers and our local community to celebrate NAIDOC Week in a meaningful and creative way,โ said Leonard.
โThe day is about connection, culture and inclusion, and we would love everyone to join us in sharing these important community stories.โ
