Thereโ€™s something special about winter in Walcha.

With crisp country air, cosy cafรฉs, boutique shopping and plenty of family-friendly fun, Walcha WinterFest is the perfect excuse to embrace the season and experience everything this New England town has to offer.

On Saturday, 11 July, and Sunday, 12 July, Walcha will come alive with live music, winter markets, local shopping and activities for all ages, celebrating the town that proudly calls itself “10 degrees cooler”.

The weekend begins with the Twilight Winter Festival in McHattan Park on Saturday from 2pm to 7pm. As the afternoon rolls into evening, the park will be filled with live music, fire pits, delicious food and plenty of winter atmosphere.

Tamworth country and soul duo The Texas Wedges will provide the soundtrack to the afternoon while visitors warm up with hot chocolate or coffee, enjoy comfort food and gather around the fire pits.

For children and the young at heart, there will be falling snow, a giant walk-in snow globe perfect for family photos, lantern making, a scavenger hunt, yarn animal creations and traditional lawn games including Finska, cornhole and quoits.

Adding to the community spirit, many of the activities and food offerings will be run by students from Walcha Central School.

On Sunday, McHattan Park will host the Winter in Walcha Markets from 9am to 1pm, showcasing locally made goods, artisan products and handmade treasures from talented regional makers.

The markets coincide with Sunday Welcomes @ Walcha, with local businesses opening from 10am to 2pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to wander through town, browse boutiques and specialty stores, discover antiques and locally crafted timber products, enjoy a leisurely lunch and experience the genuine country hospitality Walcha is known for.

Whether you’re planning a family day out, a weekend escape or simply looking for a reason to rug up and head to the high country, Walcha WinterFest offers the chance to slow down, explore and enjoy winter at its best.
