Moree Hospital redevelopment reaches major construction milestone

Moree Hospital.

The $105 million Moree Hospital Redevelopment has reached a significant construction milestone, with the new two-storey acute services building topping out and its roof now complete.

The milestone marks a major step forward in the State Government’s investment in regional healthcare infrastructure, with the redevelopment set to deliver a new acute services building featuring an emergency department, ambulance bay, operating theatre, medical imaging services, birthing unit, inpatient unit, pathology services, kiosk and main entrance.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the achievement brought improved healthcare services for the Moree community closer to reality.

“This is an exciting milestone for the Moree community, bringing access to enhanced healthcare services a step closer with the new acute services building taking shape,” Park said.

“The $105 million Moree Hospital redevelopment will deliver modern health care facilities for the Moree community and a provide a contemporary, purpose-built workplace for staff.”

The new acute services building is designed to support contemporary models of care and provide patients, families and carers with a modern facility that meets the healthcare needs of the community now and into the future.

Construction of the roof required almost three kilometres of roofing battens and 2,900 square metres of roof sheeting.

The milestone follows the completion of extensive groundworks and concrete pours, with more than 3,000 tonnes of fill used and more than 2,000 cubic metres of concrete poured during the project.

With most structural works now complete, construction will now focus on the internal fit-out of the new building and the installation of the external façade.

As part of the redevelopment, the Crane and Glennie Building was recently demolished to make way for a new landscaped courtyard that will connect the acute services building with existing hospital facilities. The courtyard is expected to improve connectivity across the campus while providing an accessible and welcoming space for patients, visitors and staff.

The redevelopment is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District and Hutchinson Builders.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
