How rounding meditation works for Miranda Kerr and her children

Sheโ€™s a long way from Gunnedah, but Miranda Kerr still tries to stay grounded, saying she regularly meditates with her young sons and has revealed yoga is a vital part of her wellness routine.

The 42-year-old Australian model explained how she practices Vedic rounding, a technique that combines meditation practice with breathwork and a simple, non-strenuous yoga sequence. The result is a deep, immersive experience. A number of retreats teaching the practice have been held around Byron Bay, and more studios are taking up the combined approach.

Kerr has a son, Flynn, 15, with her ex-husband Orlando Bloom, and sons Hart, 7, Myles, 6, and Pierre, 2, with her spouse Evan Spiegel.

โ€œEach of my kids, except the baby, have been taught Vedic meditation and they each have their own mantra,โ€ Kerr told LYMAโ€™s Power Women series.

โ€œItโ€™s something Iโ€™ve been practising since I was 17 and itโ€™s key to my connection and devotion,โ€ she said.

โ€œAs an adult, you do it for 20 minutes, but for my children, my six-year-old does it for six minutes, seven-year-old seven minutes, and so on.โ€

โ€œThis New Year, he (Flynn) said: โ€˜Mum, I want to meditate with you every morning at 6am and do it for 20 minutesโ€™,โ€ she said.

โ€œOn the days he does it โ€ฆ heโ€™s like, โ€˜I really noticed a difference. I felt much calmer the days I did itโ€™.โ€

Kerr also revealed she became an early riser when she started dating Snapchat co-founder Spiegel.

โ€œI wake up every morning between 5am and 5.30am. Iโ€™m quite an early bird,โ€ she said.

โ€œI was naturally a night owl before I met my husband, and weโ€™ve been together 12 years this year.โ€

โ€œI remember one of the first Friday nights we spent together and heโ€™s like, โ€˜Okay, letโ€™s go to bedโ€™. Iโ€™m like, โ€˜Itโ€™s like 8.30pmโ€™. And heโ€™s like, โ€˜Yeah, letโ€™s go to bedโ€™.โ€

โ€œNow I absolutely love it.โ€

Kerr sends the children to bed early โ€œand then I have time for myselfโ€.

โ€œI put relaxing music on throughout the whole house at like 5pm and dim the lights so I can naturally help my kids wind down.โ€
