It’s here! Election Day 2025

The big day has arrived — it’s Election Day, and 18.1 million Australians are expected to cast their votes before polls close.

Whether you’re an early riser heading out first thing or squeezing it in between weekend plans, voting is compulsory — and it’s your chance to help shape the future of the country. Miss out, and you may receive a non-voter notice and a fine.

Here’s what you need to know:

Polling places are open from 8am to 6pm
If you’re in line by 6pm, you will be allowed to vote — so don’t stress if there’s a line at the end of the day.

Check your nearest polling booth
Need help finding where to vote? Visit the AEC website to locate your nearest polling place and check venue accessibility details. We also have the full list for New England and Parkes.

Expect queues
With millions voting today, some queues are expected, especially during peak times like mid-morning and late afternoon. The AEC has extra staff on hand, and they’re asking for patience and a little kindness towards staff and fellow voters alike.

Be respectful
Campaign workers will be out in force, and the AEC reminds everyone to treat each other with courtesy. You don’t have to take the how to vote cards, but you don’t have to be rude to the people handing them out either (and they absolutely shouldn’t be rude to you).

Postal voting
It’s too late to apply for a postal vote, but if you already have your ballot, you must complete it by 6pm today and get it in the mail ASAP. The AEC will accept completed postal votes for up to 13 days after election day, as long as they’re signed and dated by today.
