This year Cancer Council Australia celebrates the 30th anniversary of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a community event that raises vital funds to make a difference for those impacted by cancer. Not only is Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea the largest and most successful fundraising event of its kind in Australia, but it is also Cancer Council Australia’s most popular fundraising event.

The official date of this nation-wide event is Thursday 25th May, however anyone can register to host a Biggest Morning Tea event at any time throughout May or June. Many Biggest Morning Tea events have already been held throughout the region so far this month, with many more planned around the official date and into June. Cancer Council Australia is encouraging participants of the Biggest Morning Tea to host it ‘your way’ – a quiet get-together at home, an extended workplace morning tea, a Club event, or even an online video chat with friends.

Some of the many and varied events being hosted across the New England include

  • Tamworth Pride Inc which has organised to host a Morning Tea and BBQ in Anzac Park, Tamworth on Sunday 28th May from 11.00am for a gold coin donation, with BBQ and drinks available to purchase.
  • Life Choices in Glen Innes is hosting a Biggest Morning Tea on the 30th of May from 10am to 2PM, requested donation is $3 per person with a sausage sizzle for lunch, a cent auction and games.
  • Narrabri Pharmacy is holding an event at the store on the 25th of May at 11am.
  • Emmaville general Store is hosting a Biggest Morning Tea today (May 24) at the Emmaville War Memorial Hall from 11am.
  • McMaughs Gardens in Uralla will host their special ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ event on Tuesday 23rd May.
  • Terminus Hotel in Quirindi has planned a ‘Biggest Afternoon Tea’ event for May 28th from 3.00pm.
  • Warialda residents are invited to ‘Carinda House’ from 10.00am on Thursday 25th May for a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ Garden Party.
  • Armidale will have a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ event at the Armidale Racecourse on Saturday 3rd June from 10.00am.
  • Bundarra branch of the CWA will host an event in their CWA Rooms on Wednesday 14th June.

Every ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ event is an important showing of community support for families and individuals within their community who are dealing with the many issues of Cancer. The New England and North West branch of Cancer Council Australia provides assistance to local people who are going through Cancer treatments by funding programs trying to prevent Cancers and supporting local services including transporting patients to treatments and outpatient and carer accommodation services, such as Inala House in Tamworth.

It is a sad fact that most of us will be impacted by cancer during our lifetime, whether directly or indirectly through family members or friends. It is for this reason that people from all walks of life, in  the largest major regional centres to the smallest rural communities, get together for a cuppa and a bite to eat, to raise awareness and to raise much needed funds for research, prevention and support services.
