Narrabri’s night of light is going back to nature, with a new layout that will keep Maitland Street open and shift the action to the creek.
Narrabri Shire Council has revealed “nature” as the theme for NarraBRIGHT 2027, which returns on Friday, 9 April 2027.
The event will turn the Narrabri Creek Pathway into an immersive, illuminated experience inspired by the natural world.
Large-scale light installations, interactive displays, and artistic experiences will draw on the landscapes, waterways, flora, and fauna that make the Narrabri region unique.
“Nature is at the heart of our community and our region, making it the perfect inspiration for NarraBRIGHT 2027,” said Narrabri Shire Council Small Business Liaison Officer and NarraBRIGHT Event Manager Gillian Goddard.
“The Narrabri Creek Pathway provides a beautiful setting for this year’s event and allows us to create an immersive experience that guides visitors through a series of illuminated installations and creative activations inspired by the environment around us.”
The biggest change for 2027 is where the event will happen.
Building on community feedback from previous events, NarraBRIGHT 2027 will have a more focused footprint, centred mainly on the Narrabri Creek Pathway.
Unlike previous years, Maitland Street will stay open, with only small sections of Tibbereena and Dewhurst streets closed for the event.
Goddard said the new layout would create a more concentrated experience for visitors while reducing the impact on the wider community.
“Community feedback plays an important role in how NarraBRIGHT continues to evolve,” she said.
“This year’s layout responds to that feedback by focusing activity along the creek pathway while allowing businesses and residents road access to Maitland Street during the event.”
Maitland Street will still be part of the night, with local businesses and hospitality venues set to play a major role.
“Local businesses and hospitality activation throughout Maitland Street will play a major role in this years event, with a rejuvenated approaching focusing on supporting activities across venues and local businesses, including outdoor dining,” Goddard said.
Mayor Darrell Tiemens said NarraBRIGHT continues to grow as one of the region’s most anticipated community events.
“NarraBRIGHT is a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together and showcase everything that makes Narrabri special,” Tiemens said.
“The event creates a fantastic atmosphere for residents and visitors alike, supports local businesses and encourages people to experience our town in a new and exciting way.”
“Each year NarraBRIGHT attracts people from across the region and beyond, helping strengthen community pride while delivering positive economic benefits for our local businesses and hospitality sector.”
NarraBRIGHT is supported by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW. Narrabri Shire Council secured $350,000 over three years to deliver a series of public events that strengthen community connection and support local economic activity.
More announcements, including expressions of interest (EOIs) to be involved, program details, entertainment, and installation reveals, will be made over the coming weeks.
