Nundle Rocks returns in 2027 with more than 25 acts

WILLIAM CRIGHTON

Nundle Rocks will return to the New England region in January 2027, bringing three days of alternative country, folk and roots music to the mountain village of Nundle, about 40 minutes east of Tamworth.

The popular music event will run from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January, featuring more than 25 acts, including ARIA Award-winning artist William Crighton, Australian singer-songwriter Emily Lubitz and UK folk musician Beans On Toast.

Organised by Dashville, the festival will once again take over the Nundle School of Arts Memorial Hall, offering music lovers an alternative to the crowds of Tamworth’s busy country music festival season.

Other performers on the line-up include Watty Thompson & The Total Fire Band, Magpie Diaries, Johnston City, CJ Stranger, Georgie Winchester, Joey Leigh Wagtail and Kingsley James & The Forest Keepers.

The 2027 event will also introduce the Supper Super Round, a new feature inspired by the Sunset Super Round at Dashville’s Skyline festival, where musicians perform their own versions of well-known songs.

Popular local supergroup The Nundle Nugget Hunters will return to close the festival on Sunday night, continuing what has become a lively annual tradition.

Now entering its fifth year in its revamped format, Nundle Rocks has established itself as a summer destination for alternative country music enthusiasts.

The original Nundle Rocks concept emerged more than a decade ago, offering music fans a relaxed alternative to the hustle and bustle of Tamworth’s Peel Street.

The event has since developed into a three-day musical retreat, combining live performances with the village’s country hospitality and scenic mountain surroundings.

Festival organisers say recordings captured during last year’s event will also be released ahead of the 2027 festival.

With Nundle embracing the growing event, additional activities are expected to take place throughout the village over the weekend.
