Two community organisations across Moree Plains Shire will benefit from more than $30,000 in funding to improve local facilities, support community activities and enhance public spaces.
Moree Plains Shire Council has announced the successful recipients of its latest Community Enhancement Fund round, with $30,379 awarded through a donation from Moree Solar Farm.
The Moree Caledonian Pipes and Drums will receive $20,000 for its Equipment Renewal Program, while the Boomi Community Co-Operative has secured $10,379 for its Birds of Boomi Amenities Block Mural project.
The fund supports initiatives aimed at strengthening community facilities, services and liveability across the shire.
Moree Caledonian Pipe and Drum Band Pipe Major Tim Tesorerio said the funding would help the band replace ageing equipment and upgrade uniforms, allowing members to continue competing and representing the region.
โThis funding is a huge boost for the band. We are extremely grateful to Moree Solar Farm and Moree Plains Shire Council for their support. The funding will allow us to replace essential drums that have reached the end of their usable life and invest in much-needed uniform upgrades, both are vital to ensuring we can continue competing at a high standard while proudly representing the Moree community,” said Tesorerio.
โWe are currently preparing for a big weekend in Sydney, competing at The Great Sydney Highland Fair and the NSW State Pipe Band Championships which will be our final competitive performances for the 2026 season. We also look forward to continuing our involvement in local community events and running our popular cherry drive fundraiser later this year.”
Meanwhile, the Boomi mural project will enhance local amenities through public artwork, adding colour and character to the community.
Moree Plains Shire Mayor Susannah Pearse welcomed the funding, saying it would support both a longstanding community organisation and a creative initiative in Boomi.
โThe Community Enhancement Fund continues to support projects that strengthens our communities. It is fantastic to see this round of funding supporting both a longstanding community organisation and a creative project that will add to the character of Boomi. Council is proud to partner with Moree Solar Farm in awarding this funding which helps organisations continue to make a real difference in the community.” said Pearse.
Council congratulated both recipients and said it looked forward to seeing the projects delivered and benefiting local residents.
