A 22-year-old man has been charged and ammunition seized following a police pursuit north-west of Moree.
Police attempted to stop a Toyota utility on Carrigan Road at Boomi, about 90 kilometres north-west of Moree, about midday on Monday.
The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from an address in Queensland earlier that day.
Police began a pursuit after the driver allegedly failed to stop.
The pursuit continued across farmland and several roads in the area, including Carrigan Road, Dolgelly Road and Letter Box Road, before reaching the Newell Highway and entering bushland.
Following inquiries and with assistance from members of the community, police located the vehicle a short time later in nearby bushland.
The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Police, assisted by the Dog Unit, later arrested a 22-year-old man nearby.
Officers allegedly found five rounds of ammunition in the man’s possession.
The man was taken to Moree Hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken to Moree Police Station.
He was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, possessing ammunition without a licence, permit or authority and receiving property stolen outside NSW valued at more than $15,000.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Tuesday.
Police inquiries are continuing.
