Two long-standing Tamworth education institutions will join forces for an event designed to show the community what lifelong learning can look like.
The University of New England’s Tamworth Study Centre and Tamworth Community College will come together on Thursday for an information evening as part of Adult Learner’s Week celebrations.
Together they will speak with community members about the subjects, support and guidance on offer to people looking to start study, no matter what stage of life they are at. That includes everything from workplace essentials to literacy and numeracy skills, certificates, diplomas and pathways to university degrees.
“This year’s Adult Learner’s Week theme is ‘Follow Your Compass: Learning for Life’ and that’s exactly what we see happening in our community,” UNE Senior Manager, Tamworth and Regions, Catherine Lees said.
“We work with students who are balancing jobs, families, and study, and they’re proving every day that it’s never too late to invest in yourself.”
Ms Lees said staff at UNE Tamworth see people at all stages of life walking through the doors ready to take the next step.
“Whether you’re looking to upskill, change careers, or pursue something you’ve always wanted to, we’re here to make that journey possible,” she said.
“Our partnership with Tamworth Community College means there’s a clear pathway from that first conversation right through to a university qualification, and you don’t have to leave Tamworth to do it.”
Tamworth Community College CEO Jade Vermeer said Thursday evening’s event was a chance for the community to see first hand the options available to them at home.
“We believe learning is a lifelong journey, and it is never too late to take the next step,” Ms Vermeer said.
“We provide flexible, learner-centred and place-based education and training that responds to the needs of our community.”
Ms Vermeer said the college provides tailored support that helps students build confidence, develop skills and create pathways to further study and employment, ranging from literacy and numeracy programs and essential short courses to nationally recognised qualifications.
“We are thrilled to partner with UNE Tamworth for this Adult Learners Week event,” she said. “TCC and UNE both understand how important it is for people in our region to have access to education and clear pathways that meet them where they are.
“By working together, we can show our community the many different ways they can begin or continue their learning journey, as well as the support available to help them take that next step.”
Residents from Tamworth and surrounds are invited to UNE Tamworth on Thursday, 3 September from 5.30pm for the Pathways to Education: Adult Learner’s Week event. Light refreshments will be provided. Registrations are encouraged via Eventbrite.
