Armidale Regional Council is partnering with local community groups and organisations to deliver a series of youth-focused events and activities across the region.
Over 18 months, a range of events and activities is being co-designed with and delivered for young people. The initiative, funded by the NSW Government through a Community and Family Support (CAFS) Program Community Strengthening Grant, also creates opportunities for young people to connect with local services, organisations and support networks in engaging and accessible ways.
Mayor Sam Coupland said the funding enabled Council and its partners to deliver activities that responded directly to the needs of local young people, while strengthening community connections and improving awareness of available services.
“Like all of us, young people thrive when they feel connected to their community and know where to turn for support,” said Coupland.
“This funding enables Council to work alongside local organisations to create opportunities for young people to build relationships and access services in a meaningful, accessible way.โ
Events and activities will focus on inclusion, participation and community wellbeing.
“By creating opportunities for young people to connect with organisations in positive and informal settings, we can help break down barriers and build trust,” said Coupland.
“These events will not only showcase the services available in our region but also celebrate young people and their important role in our community!”
Several events have been held so far in 2026, including:
- upcycling and creative mending workshops at Armidale and Guyra libraries, in partnership with Thread Shed Armidale
- a skateboarding workshop at Armidale Skate Park, in partnership with Totem Skateboarding
- mural workshops at Armidale Town Hall and Armidale Skate Park, in partnership with Sora Community Services and artist James OโHanlon.
The Armidale Multicultural Youth Advisory Committee (AMYCC) is planning the next event, a โBattle of the Bandsโ at Armidale Town Hall on 29 August. Young local musicians will have the chance to perform, while the community will have the opportunity to celebrate and support them.
โIโm looking forward to seeing what more is ahead for our wonderful local young people!โ said Coupland.
