Telstra customers in the Tamworth CBD may experience temporary disruptions to mobile coverage while maintenance work is carried out this week.
Telstra will undertake essential maintenance on a mobile site servicing the CBD on Friday, 21 August.
The work is expected to take one day, with the site to be switched off for short periods so crews can safely complete the maintenance.
Telstra said the work would result in reduced mobile coverage at times and customers would receive an SMS advising them of the planned disruption.
The company said nbn and satellite internet services, PSTN landlines and mobile services provided by other carriers would not be affected.
People who use medical or personal safety devices that rely on the Telstra mobile network, including fall detection systems, alarm pendants and health monitoring devices, are being advised to contact their service provider or device manufacturer about possible impacts and alternative connectivity options.
Businesses using EFTPOS terminals connected to the Telstra mobile network should check with their bank or EFTPOS provider to determine whether their terminals can use nbn or Wi-Fi during the disruption.
Telstra customers with compatible devices may also be able to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi by enabling Wi-Fi Calling.
If the Telstra network is unavailable, compatible mobile phones will automatically attempt to connect Triple Zero (000) calls through another available mobile network using emergency “camp on”.
“If your first attempt doesn’t connect within around five seconds, hang up and try again immediately. On subsequent attempts, stay on the line for up to 60 seconds to give your phone the best chance to access another available network and connect your call,” Telstra said.
Telstra said the timing and impact of planned works could change because of factors outside its control.
