Man charged after firearm, knife and drugs allegedly seized at Taminda business

A 40-year-old man will face court after police allegedly seized a firearm, a knife and drugs in Tamworth.

Police were called to a business on Jewry Street at Taminda about 10:15 pm on Saturday after reports of a man allegedly armed with a firearm.

Officers from the Western Region Operations Support Group, assisted by Oxley Police District, arrested the man inside the business.

Police allege they searched the man and seized a firearm, a knife and a small amount of cannabis.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with possessing a prohibited drug, possessing ammunition without a licence, custody of a knife in a public place, and possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Sunday.
