Sale of Quirindi gym site to secure future of fitness services

Liverpool Plains Shire Council has completed the sale of 62 Station Street, Quirindi, following a competitive expression of interest (EOI) process, with the new owners committing to continue operating a fitness centre at the site.

Council received seven submissions through the EOI process before endorsing the sale. The property sold for $450,000, in line with an independent market valuation.

Mayor Ken Cudmore said the sale marked the next chapter for the facility after Council operated Plains Fitness from the site for the past 20 years.

“We were very pleased with the strength of the response to the EOI process and extend our appreciation to all respondents for their time and participation and were particularly impressed that every single respondent indicated an intention to continue operating a fitness facility from the site,” Cudmore said.

“Council has undertaken a careful and considered approach, including obtaining an independent market valuation, to ensure that the sale represents fair value for the community.

“Council stepped in where it was needed, but this outcome reflects a natural transition to a private operator who is better placed to deliver and grow a commercial fitness centre.

“It allows Council to focus on our core responsibilities, while ensuring our community continues to benefit from these services.”

The purchasers are local businessman Shane Grosman, owner of Creek Meats, NRG Station and other businesses, and local GP Dr Peter Aboujaude. They plan to invest in the facility by upgrading equipment and expanding services over time.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity and appreciate the constructive way Council has worked with us throughout this process,” Grosman said.

“We recognise the considerable effort Council has invested in establishing and developing Plains Fitness, and we appreciate that we are inheriting more than two decades of community legacy,” he said.

“We understand the importance of this facility and the responsibility that comes with its stewardship and are committed to ensuring that Plains Fitness remains a place that serves the community well and continues to contribute positively to the social, cultural and economic fabric of our region.

“We look forward to working with the community as we refine our plans and continue to build on what’s already in place.”

Council said it was working with the new owners to ensure a smooth handover with minimal disruption to members. Settlement is scheduled for 8 July 2026.
