The national peak body for livestock and rural transport operators has appointed a new executive director, with Ben Maguire AM set to take the helm of the Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association from Monday 29 June.
Mr Maguire brings a background spanning transport, agriculture, government and the not-for-profit sector. His previous roles include senior executive positions with the Australian Trucking Association, the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, and Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds, along with a range of national leadership and governance appointments. He will continue in his role as Director of Corporate Affairs at Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds alongside his new position.
ALRTA President Gerard Johnson said the appointment came at an important moment for the industry.
“Ben combines deep industry knowledge with a strong understanding of regional Australia and the challenges facing livestock and rural transport operators. He is a proven advocate, strategic leader and relationship builder, and we are delighted to welcome him to ALRTA.”
Mr Johnson also acknowledged outgoing Interim Executive Director Anthony Boyle, who stepped into the role during a period of transition for the organisation.
“Anthony stepped into the role during a period of significant transition for the Association and has done an outstanding job leading the organisation. His commitment to our members, his industry knowledge and his willingness to serve have been greatly appreciated by the National Council. We thank Anthony for his contribution and look forward to his ongoing involvement with ALRTA.”
Mr Maguire said he was honoured to accept the role and was focused on listening to members and strengthening the organisation’s relationships with industry and government.
“Livestock and rural transport operators are among the most resilient and hardworking people in Australia. They connect farms, communities and markets, often operating in challenging conditions and over vast distances.
“The industry plays a critical role in Australia’s agricultural success and food security. I am excited by the opportunity to work with ALRTA members to ensure their contribution is recognised and their voice remains influential in the decisions that affect their businesses and communities.”
He said his work with Healthy Heads would complement his ALRTA role.
“The work of Healthy Heads and ALRTA is complementary, with both organisations committed to supporting the people and businesses that keep regional and rural Australia moving.”
Mr Johnson said the association was looking forward to the road ahead.
“ALRTA looks forward to working with Ben as we continue to build a strong, united and influential future for livestock and rural transport across Australia.”
