A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash in the New England region of NSW last year.
Emergency services were called to a dam on the Bruxner Highway near Bryans Gap Road, Tenterfield, about 3.30pm on 10 September 2025 following reports a vehicle had crashed.
Police were told a black SUV struck a tree before entering the dam and becoming submerged.
An 11-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pulled from the water and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. She died at the scene.
The driver, a 50-year-old woman, was also rescued from the water and treated by paramedics before being taken to Tenterfield Hospital in a stable condition.
A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, the 50-year-old woman attended Tamworth Police Station on Monday, where she was issued with a Court Attendance Notice alleging:
- dangerous driving occasioning death while driving under the influence;
- dangerous driving occasioning death by driving in a manner dangerous;
- negligent driving occasioning death;
- driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs; and
- driving a vehicle with an illicit drug present in her blood.
She is due to appear before Tenterfield Local Court on 30 July 2026.
