Double Demerits in force for King’s Birthday long weekend

Double demerit points will apply for the holiday season

Motorists are being urged to take extra care on NSW roads, with double demerit penalties in effect from 12.01am on Friday, 5 June, until 11.59pm on Monday, 8 June, for the King’s Birthday long weekend.

Thousands of people are expected to travel across the state over the long weekend, resulting in increased traffic volumes on major highways, regional roads and around popular holiday destinations.

Double demerit penalties will apply to offences including speeding, illegal mobile phone use, not wearing a seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences.

Drivers are reminded to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, take regular breaks on longer journeys and check road conditions before departing.

Road safety authorities are urging motorists to remain patient, obey speed limits and avoid risky behaviour behind the wheel.

Police will conduct high-visibility enforcement activities throughout the long weekend, targeting dangerous driving and other traffic offences.

Motorists can plan their journey and check live traffic updates across NSW at www.livetraffic.com.
