Young people and industry to take centre stage at Tamworth Agricultural Careers Expo

More than 1,300 students and teachers from across regional New South Wales will gather in Tamworth next week for one of the state’s largest agricultural careers events, connecting young people with the industries shaping the future of agriculture.

Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School will host the seventh biennial Tamworth Agricultural Careers Expo on Thursday, 11 June, bringing together more than 50 exhibitors representing employers, industry groups, universities and training providers.

The expo is designed to give students a firsthand look at the diverse career opportunities available across the agricultural sector, from traditional farming roles to emerging technology-driven professions.

Industry leaders will showcase innovation through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations and hands-on workshops, highlighting the skills and technologies transforming modern agriculture. Demonstrations will include drone mapping with a live LiDAR survey, robotic dog technology, digitising soils, crops and livestock, working dogs, shearing and farm vehicle safety.

A key focus of the event will be empowering young people to develop practical skills and confidence while exploring future career pathways.

The Farmers Challenge will put student teams through a series of practical agricultural tasks, testing communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced competition environment. The event aims to showcase the capabilities of young people while highlighting the broad skill set required across the agricultural industry.

Students will also take part in the Student Auctioneering Challenge, proudly supported by McCulloch Agencies. Under the guidance of industry professionals, participants will learn the fundamentals of auctioneering before demonstrating their skills in front of exhibitors, teachers and peers.

The expo will attract students from public and private schools across the New England and Northern Tablelands regions, as well as from the Upper Hunter, Gloucester, Woolgoolga, Dungog and as far west as Cobar.

By bringing together students, educators and industry representatives, the event aims to strengthen connections between education and employment while inspiring the next generation of agricultural professionals.

The Tamworth Agricultural Careers Expo will be held at the Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School Agriculture Centre of Excellence from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday, 11 June.
