The Inverell Mountain Bike Track has reopened after the successful reformation of the Inverell Mountain Bike Club Inc. and the signing of a new licence agreement with Inverell Shire Council for management of the facility.
At its ordinary meeting on 27 May, council noted a report confirming the club had officially reformed following its annual general meeting on 6 May. The outcome follows council’s decision in April to suspend the expressions of interest process to allow the community time to re-establish the club and continue its long-standing community-led management of the track.
Following a public meeting in April, community members agreed to hold an AGM to determine the club’s future. The meeting, held at McDonald’s Inverell, resulted in the election of a new executive committee comprising president Stewart Johnston, vice-president Dan Harmon, secretary Jordan Daemon and treasurer Manuel Meszaros.
Council was subsequently advised that the club had begun the process of re-affiliating with AusCycling to secure insurance coverage and had requested an updated licence agreement to allow the facility to reopen as soon as possible. In line with council’s resolution, the agreement was provided, signed and formally executed on 15 May. Council also received the club’s public liability certificate of currency.
Following the completion of the agreement and insurance requirements, council removed locks from the pedestrian gate and took down signage relating to the temporary closure.
Mayor Kate Dight said the club’s reformation was a positive outcome for both the community and the future of the facility.
“Council welcomes the successful reformation of the Inverell Mountain Bike Club and congratulates the new executive on stepping forward to lead the organisation,” Dight said.
“This is a strong example of the community working together to support the ongoing operation of an important local facility. Council is pleased to see the track reopen under a community-led model that helps preserve local knowledge and commitment to the sport.”
The reopening of the Inverell Mountain Bike Track restores public access to the facility while ensuring its management remains with a dedicated local organisation.
