A regular biweekly program is strengthening intergenerational connections in Tamworth, with local preschool children visiting aged-care residents as part of an ongoing shared activity.
Every second week, residents at RFBI Tamworth Masonic Village welcome children from a local preschool to spend time together singing songs, chatting and taking part in simple creative activities.
During a recent visit, residents and children enjoyed painting rocks side by side, sharing conversations and laughter as they worked together. The painted rocks will be hidden in the park across the road from the village, where the children will return to find them with the residents.
“This is something our residents really look forward to each week,” said Ben Callaghan, General Manager at RFBI Tamworth Masonic Village.
“The children bring such warmth and energy into the village and it’s wonderful to see natural friendships form through shared activities like music and art.”
The regular visits support social connection and routine for residents, while giving children the opportunity to build confidence and understanding through positive interactions with older members of the community.
RFBI Tamworth Masonic Village plans to continue the fortnightly sessions.
