The 42nd Armidale Eisteddfod is bringing the community together once again, with performers, volunteers, sponsors and audiences celebrating local talent across music, speech and drama.
Now in its 42nd year, the Eisteddfod continues to provide an important platform for people of all ages from Armidale and surrounding communities to perform, connect and share their passion for the arts.
The program began with the Music Composition performances, attended by adjudicator Dr Robert Davidson, followed by the keyboard section. The main competition program runs from Friday, 15 May to Wednesday, 3 June, with the Gala Concert to be held on 14 June.
Organised entirely by a dedicated committee of volunteers, the Eisteddfod remains a strong example of community support in action, relying on local sponsorship, volunteers and competitors to continue each year.
Choir Night and Band Night are expected to again draw strong local support, with events scheduled for Wednesday, 20 May, at Lazenby Hall, and Tuesday, 2 June, at the Old Teachers’ College Auditorium, respectively.
Committee president John Hadfield said the Eisteddfod plays an important role in building confidence and encouraging young performers.
“The Eisteddfod gives our young musicians and speech and drama students a chance to perform in front of their peers, their parents, the public, and above all, the adjudicator, it helps them build confidence in performing in public and they have the chance to receive feedback on their performance to help them grow.”
Hadfield also acknowledged the role the broader community plays in keeping the event running.
“The Eisteddfod could not happen without the wonderful support from the community, through sponsorship and volunteering, with no government funding received. Truly, Armidale is a special place that truly values and appreciates the Arts.”
The majority of events will be held at the Old Teachers’ College Auditorium, with affordable ticket prices aimed at encouraging community attendance throughout the competition.
Session tickets are $3 concession and $5 adult, while adult season tickets cost $40. Family passes for the duration of the Eisteddfod are $80. Gala Night tickets are priced at $5 concession and $10 adult.
