Copeton to host inaugural Show and Shine aimed at boosting tourism

Organisers of this weekend’s inaugural Show and Shine at Copeton Dam are aiming to establish the car enthusiast gathering as a regular feature on the region’s tourism calendar, with strong exhibitor interest ahead of the event.

The two-day event, to be held on April 18 and 19, is organised by the Inverell Sporties Ford GT and Enthusiasts Club and hosted by Reflections Copeton Waters. It will showcase Ford GTs, classic cars of all makes and a selection of newer models.

Vehicles will be on display from early Saturday, followed by a bonfire, sausage sizzle and DJ in the evening. Displays will continue on Sunday morning before the event concludes around midday.

Reflections Copeton Waters park manager Steve Daly said preparations had been under way for some time, with high demand for accommodation and day passes.

“Our holiday park is a logical place to have this event because it’s a key meeting point for the region, with accommodation and lots of outdoor activities to enjoy at the dam, and we’re so excited to be hosting it,” Daly said.

Inverell Sporties member Brett Parker said clubs from across inland New South Wales and the North West were travelling to attend, despite higher fuel costs.

“A few weeks back we were wondering if we should reconsider the timing but we have had such a positive response, with overwhelming interest from the network of car clubs around New South Wales,” Parker said.

“We’re looking forward to having all the cars on display during the weekend, having ensured that this event is not just for Ford GT fans but for classic and new, with something for everyone.”

Parker said organisers hoped to grow the event into an annual attraction, with increasing involvement from local businesses and charities.
