Over 700 homes and businesses across the Narrabri Local Government Area are set to benefit from faster and more reliable internet connectivity, with nbn Fixed Wireless services being rolled out under the NSW Government’s Regional Digital Connectivity Program.
The upgrade will provide improved broadband access to residents and businesses in Narrabri and surrounding areas, including Narrabri East, Yarrie Lake, Drildool, and Wee Waa. The project aims to bridge the digital divide for regional communities by delivering high-quality internet services comparable to those available in metropolitan areas.
The New South Wales Government has contracted nbn to deliver the fixed wireless infrastructure, with nbn’s delivery partner Ventia currently undertaking construction works across the region. This includes the installation of five new fixed wireless towers, which will expand coverage and improve network performance. Construction is expected to continue throughout the remainder of the year.
Once connected, eligible properties will be able to access faster and more reliable broadband services via nbn Fixed Wireless technology. The service uses a combination of 4G technology and advanced 5G millimetre wave (mmWave) technology to transmit the broadband signal from a nearby transmission tower to a small antenna installed on a customer’s roof.
The upgraded network is designed to deliver speeds of up to 250 megabits per second, enabling smoother and higher-resolution video calls, improved streaming services, faster downloads, and the ability to connect multiple devices at the same time. These improvements are expected to support local businesses, remote workers, students, and households who rely on stable internet access for work, education, and everyday life.
Head of nbn Local NSW, Tom O’Dea, said the expansion of the fixed wireless network was a vital investment in regional infrastructure.
“The nbn Fixed Wireless network is a critical part of our infrastructure, supporting regional Australian homes and businesses with faster speeds and more reliable connectivity than ever before, even during the busiest times,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Australians deserve access to fast, effective broadband, regardless of whether they live in a major city or on the outskirts of a country town.”
Residents and business owners are encouraged to check their eligibility for nbn Fixed Wireless and other nbn services, as well as available retail service providers, by visiting the nbn website.
As part of the rollout, the nbn Local team is also hosting a series of community engagement sessions across regional NSW this year to help residents understand the upcoming fixed wireless upgrades and how to get connected. While none are currently scheduled directly in Narrabri, nearby opportunities for residents to speak with nbn representatives include community information sessions in Nundle (11 February 2026) and Werris Creek (12 February 2026), where the team will be available to answer questions about technology options, eligibility, and connectivity needs. These sessions form part of nbn’s broader regional engagement calendar, including stands and drop-in events in surrounding areas, designed to give locals face-to-face support on the fixed wireless rollout and other broadband services.
The rollout is expected to deliver long-term benefits for the Narrabri region, supporting economic growth, improving access to online services, and strengthening digital connectivity for the local community.
