Armidale residents now have improved access to modern, affordable medical imaging, with Armidale Ultrasound officially opening their new premises in Armidale today.
The move marks an exciting new chapter for the well-established practice, which has long played a vital role in supporting patients, families and local healthcare providers across the region.
The new location – right next door to its previous site at 212 Rusden Street – brings together a wide range of services under one roof, giving locals access to comprehensive ultrasound, X-ray and bone density imaging without needing to travel out of town. The team says the expanded space has allowed them to create a more comfortable and efficient environment for patients, while continuing to deliver the friendly, community-centred service they are known for.
Co-owner and Practice Manager, Cara Andersen and her mother have been running the clinic together now since 2019. From humble beginnings of just the two of them working together, the clinic has grown to offer more services.
“We’re so very thankful for the community and how much they’ve been behind us since day one, that’s why we try to offer as many bulk billed services as possible,” said Ms Andersen.
“We genuinely believe that health care should be affordable for everyone.”
Armidale Ultrasound offers an extensive range of ultrasound services, covering everything from musculoskeletal and vascular imaging to abdominal, renal, thyroid and soft-tissue scans. The clinic also supports women’s health needs, providing dating scans, morphology assessments, pregnancy monitoring and high-risk obstetric imaging.

Families will also appreciate the availability of 3D/4D “Baby Bonding” scans, giving expectant parents a special opportunity to connect with their baby before birth. They even have teddy bears that can record the sound of baby’s heart beat and play it back.
General X-ray services remain a core part of the practice, providing essential imaging for fractures, chest conditions, joint issues and more. Bone density testing (DEXA) is also available, offering important insights into bone health and helping to diagnose conditions such as osteoporosis.
The practice has also made ultrasound-guided steroid injections easily accessible, with no waiting lists. This service offers timely pain relief for people with joint, tendon or soft-tissue conditions, ensuring they can be treated locally and without delay.

One of the biggest highlights of the new clinic will be their new Philips CT machine. In fact, the move to the bigger premises was specifically so they could add a CT machine to their offerings in a bigger space.
“It’s very new and very shiny – the latest state of the art technology,” said Ms Andersen.
“We’re very much hoping to be able to add interventional CT scans to our list of services in the new year as well.”
The new CT adds greatly needed capacity in Armidale. It’s is a low-dose radiation machine, a great relief to patients who need a lot of scans, and it can do the new protocol of lung scans, which will be a blessing for those with or at risk of lung disorders.
The team has designed the new premises with comfort in mind, including a dedicated kids’ corner to help families feel welcome and at ease.
“We’re very proud of the new clinic,” said Ms Andersen.

“Everything is very beautiful and bright. We really wanted the space to be as welcoming as possible, to try and take some of the stress away from our patients when they walk through the door.”
“All of this is only possible thanks to the support of the community,” Cara said.
With modern facilities, extended opening hours and a commitment to providing comprehensive imaging close to home, Armidale Ultrasound’s new premises are set to significantly benefit the
region. Ms Andersen says they are dedicated to continuing to support the Armidale community and surrounding districts with the high-quality, patient-focused care they’ve built their reputation on.
