Uralla residents will have the chance to boost their digital confidence this week with a free local event as part of Get Online Week.
The Digital IQ – A.I. Forum: Crafting Your History & Digital Skills will be held at Digital IQ Uralla, 18 Uralla Street North, on Thursday 23 October from 9am to 10am. The session will help participants explore new technology in an easy, supportive environment.
Get Online Week, coordinated nationally by Good Things Australia, features hundreds of free community events across the country. The initiative aims to help Australians improve their digital access and skills — from learning to navigate government services and staying safe online to exploring artificial intelligence.
Good Things Australia research shows that one in ten Australians can’t afford a computer, laptop or smartphone, a figure that rises to 13 per cent in regional areas. Among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the rate is one in five, and the same applies for Australians living with disability.
“The people who are most eager to engage with technology are often the ones held back by cost or confidence,” said Good Things Australia CEO Jess Wilson. “Get Online Week is about giving everyone the chance to take that first step – and showing them it can be easy and enjoyable.”
The economic and social benefits of bridging the digital divide are significant. Research from Good Things Australia estimates that stronger digital inclusion could generate $467.2 million every year through improved education, employment, health, financial safety, and social participation.
