SBM25: She’ll be right

October is Small Business Month! And to celebrate, we’re highlighting some of the great small businesses we have throughout the region.

Today, we have three businesses that specialise in making things alright again: a growing legal firm to sort your legal battles, a slashing and mulching business that can tackle any overgrown mess, and a specialist counselling service for parents.

Lyon Legal Services

Growing Stronger Together in Northern NSW

144 Byron Street, Inverell, NSW 2360

Lyon Legal Services continues to go from strength to strength, expanding its reach and impact across Northern NSW. With offices in Inverell and Tamworth, the firm is proudly building on its reputation for approachable, community-focused legal support across a wide range of areas, including Family Law, Criminal Law, Wills and Estate Planning, Conveyancing, Mediation, Parenting Coordination, and Family and Domestic Violence Support.

In 2025, Lyon Legal Services took a major step forward with the acquisition of Harris Solicitors at 3A Darling Street, Tamworth. This move strengthens its long-term commitment to individuals, families, and businesses throughout the New England region.

Owned and led by Principal Solicitor Neurelle Lyon, who holds a Master of Laws (Family Law) and qualifications as a Family Dispute Resolution and Collaborative Practitioner, the firm blends professional expertise with compassion and integrity. Working alongside Neurelle is Jason Sutton, Practice Manager, FDRP, AMDRAS Mediator and Parenting Coordinator, whose skills help clients achieve positive, practical outcomes.

What sets Lyon Legal Services apart is its people-first approach, combining experience with empathy and offering peaceful pathways to resolution through mediation and parenting coordination.

Lyon Legal Services stands proudly beside its community, growing stronger together every step of the way.

All Terrain Slashing and Mulching

Professional slashing and mulching made easy

Rocky River, NSW

Keeping rural and residential blocks under control can be hard work, especially on steep or overgrown areas. That’s where local owner-operator Brett Talty steps in. Based in Rocky River, Brett provides friendly, reliable slashing, mulching, and blackberry control services, with a same-day call-back guarantee.

Using a powerful Sherpa 4×4 slashing and mulching machine and a 52-horsepower tractor with a five-foot slasher, Brett tackles everything from small blocks to properties up to 20 acres.

“What can be done with this machine in 30 minutes to an hour would take endless hours with a brush cutter,” Brett said. “If you had an area the size of a tennis court with two-metre-high grass, I could slash and mulch it in about 10 minutes – it would look fantastic.”

Brett also offers blackberry slashing, mulching, and spraying, helping landholders reclaim overgrown areas and improve property access.

Having lived in the New England for eight years, Brett loves the country lifestyle and takes pride in helping locals keep their properties looking their best.

For fast, professional results with friendly, reliable service, contact Brett today on 0425 375 837 for all your slashing and mulching needs.

Life Changes Tamworth

Prepare parents for the realities of parenthood

411–415, Peel Street, Tamworth, NSW, 2340

Life Changes Tamworth is a local counselling service dedicated to supporting individuals and families through the challenges of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. The practice focuses on perinatal mental health and parenting, offering compassionate care for those experiencing anxiety or depression during and after pregnancy, birth trauma, miscarriage, stillbirth, fertility issues, and the many transitions that come with becoming a parent.

Founded by Tamworth local Kerryn Smith, Life Changes was created to provide a safe, supportive space for parents and families. Kerryn is an Accredited Social Worker who graduated from the University of New England in 2018 and has since dedicated her career to perinatal mental health. Her own lived experience of parenthood inspires her work, helping new parents adjust expectations, manage emotional changes, and strengthen relationships.

Kerryn’s approach is warm, empathetic, and inclusive, acknowledging the importance of partners and the family unit in therapy. She combines personal understanding with extensive training in perinatal mental health, grief, loss, and evidence-based therapies such as EMDR, which helps process birth trauma memories.

Life Changes Tamworth is the region’s only provider of parenting classes designed to prepare parents for the realities of parenthood. Appointments are easy to make and there is currently no waitlist.
