A strong field of 195 competitors will tee off in the 2025 Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship at Longyard and Tamworth Golf Clubs this Sunday.
The 54-hole championship, sponsored by Srixon and supported by Tamworth Regional Council, is set to showcase many of Australia’s best over-30 amateur golfers.
In a sign of how competitive the tournament will be, 52 players are on handicaps of scratch or better. The dual-course format at Longyard Golf Club and Tamworth Golf Club should also provide a stern test for all participants.
This year’s championship has attracted players from across Australia, with competitors travelling from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and even a couple from Western Australia competing in the prestigious event.
Notables in the field include Andrew Kirkman from South West Rocks, who is a two-time NSW Country Champion and runner-up in the 2024 NSW Amateur at Belmont Golf Club.
Goulburn’s Luke Humphries, playing off +5.5, is the lowest handicap player in the field. Also competing is three-time winner (2019, 2020 & 2021) Chris Campbell (hcp +2.8) of Mt. Broughton Golf Club.
Local hopes include Blake Palmer of Tamworth, playing off a +3.2 handicap, who will be tough to beat, and David Hamilton (handicap +0.9), also from Tamworth.
In the Women’s division, Sydneysider Ashleigh Arnold from Bonnie Doon Golf Club (handicap +1.6) is a two-time Australian Mid-Amateur champion. She will be looking to win her first NSW Mid-Amateur crown after coming close in 2024. Adele Dosen (formerly Douglas) of Bonville will also be competing and out to claim a second Mid-Amateur crown after her win at Shoalhaven Heads in 2019.
Play gets underway on Sunday morning at 8.00 am at both courses, with a cut occurring after round two. Tuesday’s final round will be seeded, with the leaders expected to tee off around 11.20 am.
