The Walcha Jockey Club will host their annual two-day race meeting this Friday and Saturday, with the 139th running of the Walcha Cup on the afternoon of Friday 9th February, continuing on Saturday 10th with their family-friendly Memorial Race Day.

With a local part-day public holiday declared for the Walcha Shire on Friday February 9th, Walcha Cup Day will be a huge social event for the area.

Set amongst the picturesque elm trees, punters will flock from across New South Wales to attend this popular race carnival.

“Without doubt, they’re two of the biggest social days of the year in Walcha as we welcome Members, guests and friends to the Walcha Cup Carnival for 2024 on the Friday”, said Walcha Jockey Club’s Manager, Simone Timbs.

“Then on Saturday we host a Family Day, bringing together two of the best afternoons of Racing in Walcha.”

The Walcha Cup will be run as the feature race of an eight-race TAB meeting. Run over 1440m, this race boasts a total prize pool of $45,000. Friday afternoon’s Cup Day is a ticketed event and will include full bar facilities, food and other beverage options. There will also be a ‘Fashions in the Field’ competition with prizes awarded for Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Gentleman as well as Best Dressed Couple.

Walcha Town & Country Club have grazing boxes available to pre-order for Members in the Marquee area on Cup Day, which will go towards raising funds to support community projects. This year they have chosen to support the Walcha Show in providing free skin checks for local community members.

Saturday is Family Day, with free entry and plenty of activities for the children, including jumping castle, ice creams, face painting, and the popular foot race around the racecourse. The youngsters will also get their turn at glamming up for the kids Fashions in the Field.

Bendemeer Hotel has also helped support the day by providing bus travel from the Bendemeer Hotel to the Walcha Racecourse, so please contact the Bendemeer Hotel for further information and to book your seat.

Tickets for the Walcha Cup Race Day on Friday 9th can be booked online at the Walcha Jockey Club website.
